105 people dead in monsoon rains; more rain expected until July 17

According to a study released by the NDMA, the ongoing monsoon rains and the ensuing floods have had a terrible impact on Pakistan, killing at least 105 people and leaving over 211 others injured between June 26 and July 13.

49 children, 38 adults, and 18 women have died, and one additional death has been reported in Khanewal in the past 24 hours alone. 211 people in all have been injured, including 48 women, 81 men, and 82 children.

In addition to taking human lives, the harsh weather has left a path of devastation in its wake. Due to flash floods and intense rains, 145 homes were totally destroyed and another 310 were partially damaged, resulting in damage to almost 10 kilometres of highways and nine bridges.

Lahore reported the highest casualties, while Punjab is the impacted.

This monsoon season, rain-related occurrences have resulted in 44 fatalities and 134 injuries in Punjab, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).  The PDMA reports that six animals were slaughtered and 50 homes were impacted.

According to a breakdown of the causes, eight people drowned while bathing in flooding or rain-fed streams, five were struck by lightning, four perished from electrocution, and 27 perished in building collapses.

Four new deaths have been verified in the last 24 hours, two in Okara and two in Bahawalnagar, while 25 people were injured in a variety of rain-related incidents.
