3km Part of Rawalpindi Ring Road to Be Built by CDA
Islamabad: According to news reports, the Punjab government and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) resolved the dispute about the construction of the 3 km portion of the Rawalpindi Ring Road that falls under the jurisdiction of the twin cities.
The government of Punjab and the CDA arranged a virtual meeting to be led by CM Usman Buzdar. Amer Ali Ahmed, chairman of the CDA, was also present. In the meeting, it was decided that the CDA would construct the portion of the road along with the interchange. However, the Punjab government will pay for all projects occurring within the province’s borders.
A portion of Ring Road will connect M-1 to GT Road close to Sangjani. In addition, it will connect to Margalla Road in Islamabad, where an interchange will be constructed. In addition, another interchange will be built at N-5, Wapda Town.

The year prior, Rawalpindi’s concerned department attempted to construct the entire 3.4 km stretch of road, but the CDA intervened. Later in February 2021, Prime Minister Imran Khan supported the CDA’s position and said that the CDA would construct the road segment that falls under its jurisdiction.
During the conference, it was determined that both parties would acquire land in their respective regions individually, but the CDA would be responsible for construction. According to CDA officials, 1,6 kilometers of the road reside within Islamabad, while 1,8 kilometers lie within Punjab.
