Late Monday night, a moderate earthquake jolted Karachi and nearby areas, causing brief panic among residents as tremors were felt across several parts of the city. The shaking was also reported in parts of Balochistan, according to official seismic authorities.
Residents in areas such as Tipu Sultan Road and surrounding localities reported feeling the ground shake for a few seconds, prompting many people to rush out of their homes in fear.
The National Seismological Center said the earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale, with a recorded depth of 12 kilometres, making it a moderate but clearly felt seismic event.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the epicentre was located near Sonmiani, a coastal area in southeastern Balochistan, around 87 kilometres northwest of Karachi.
Officials confirmed that the tremors occurred late at night and were felt in both Karachi and parts of Balochistan. No immediate reports of casualties or property damage were received, though the sudden quake caused widespread alarm among residents.
