Authorities have destroyed 8,000 litres of adulterated milk during a joint operation in Islamabad, uncovering a fake milk production unit supplying the twin cities ahead of Ramazan.
The raid was carried out by the Punjab Food Authority and the Islamabad Food Authority at a facility located in the I-10 Industrial Estate. The operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of an illegal setup producing substandard milk.
During the raid, officials recovered 336 litres of oil, 240 kilograms of vanaspati ghee, and 350 kilograms of powdered milk, which were being used to manufacture the fake product. Machinery involved in the preparation of the adulterated milk was also confiscated.
Authorities said the milk was being produced by mixing powdered milk and ghee, making it unsafe for human consumption. The product was allegedly meant for distribution in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Officials stated that the action was part of a wider crackdown. So far, 28 joint operations have been conducted, destroying 22,000 litres of adulterated milk.
According to authorities, stricter enforcement in Punjab has pushed adulteration networks toward Islamabad, leading to closer coordination between the two food authorities.
Officials said the purpose of these operations is to ensure a safe and hygienic milk supply, especially during Ramazan when demand increases. Citizens have been advised to report complaints through the helpline 1223.
