After his father’s second marriage to fellow actor Saba Hameed, television star Ali Abbas has spoken out about his tense relationship with his father, legendary actor Wasim Abbas.
Abbas talked extensively about the mental turmoil he went through as a child following his father’s second marriage in a recent podcast.
“When my father remarried when I was only eleven or twelve, it had a significant impact on our relationship,” he remarked.
Ali Abbas is the grandson of renowned folk musician Inayat Hussain Bhatti and the son of Wasim Abbas. He is well-known for his roles in popular plays including Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, Be Lagam, Khali Hath, and Fitrat. The actor confessed that, despite coming from a well-known entertainment family, he had severe emotional turmoil as a child.
Speaking about the time after the marriage, Abbas stated, “I had to take on duties because I was the oldest of my siblings. My sisters needed assistance, and my mother was depressed. I was forced to display my strength. He continued by saying that he occasionally felt abandoned since he thought his father would no longer be there for his first family.
The actor said that he and his father became more estranged at this time, which resulted in conflicts. But as time went on, he started to see things differently. “In the end, I realised that my father was probably the one who was suffering the most,” he stated.
According to Abbas, the pivotal moment occurred when he made the decision to simply listen to his father. I once heard someone say that when someone experiencing depression is heard without passing judgment, half of their suffering goes away. That’s precisely what I accomplished.
He added that he and his father were able to vent their complaints and find healing once they reconnected.
In addition to discussing generational disparities, Abbas also discussed how fathers’ roles are changing. Alpha guys were our fathers. Men don’t cry or experience pain, they thought. However, he noted that father-child connections are more emotionally transparent today.
Wasim Abbas has a long history in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. He later married Saba Hameed, a well-known actress who is the mother of singer Meesha Shafi and rapper Faris Shafi.
Even though Ali Abbas has frequently been accused of nepotism, he has continuously disassociated himself from the criticism and established a career on his own merits.
