ADB Approves Funds to Upgrade Shikarpur-Rajanpur Highway
According to recent media reports, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has authorized a USD 235 million loan to Pakistan for the conversion of 222 kilometers of the Shikarpur-Rajanpur National Highway (N-55) from the current two-lane road to a four-lane carriageway.

Along the road, according to the provided information, traffic police facilities, emergency response centres, and bus stations will also be constructed. According to reports, N-55 is part of Central Asia Regional Business Cooperation (CAREC) Corridor 5, which connects the ports of Gwadar and Karachi to national and international economic hubs in the north.
According to ADB Transport Specialist Rika Idei, the upgrade of the N-55 will improve the capacity of the highway that traverses economic hubs in Punjab and Sindh.

The USD 235 million loan is the second tranche of a multi-tranche financing agreement aimed to provide financial and technical assistance to the National Highway Authority of the country.
