The French Development Agency (AFD) has lauded Wapda’s efforts to advance affordable and clean energy in Pakistan, reaffirming its commitment to continue financing major hydropower initiatives.

According to sources, an AFD delegation led by the agency’s Asia Director Cyril Blier met Wapda Chairman Lieutenant General (Retd) Muhammad Saeed to review ongoing collaboration. The meeting focused on financial progress and future support for Wapda’s hydropower projects being assisted by AFD.

Chairman Saeed thanked AFD for its sustained partnership in developing low-cost, eco-friendly electricity for the national grid. He said the agency’s contributions have strengthened Pakistan’s shift toward renewable and sustainable energy sources.

AFD’s Asia Director praised Wapda’s expanding role in Pakistan’s clean-energy transition, noting that the authority’s hydropower portfolio is crucial in ensuring affordable and green power generation. He assured that financial cooperation would continue in the years ahead.

Currently, AFD is extending 351 million euros in financing for five Wapda projects, including the rehabilitation of the Mangla, Warsak, Dargai, and Chitral hydel power stations, initiatives expected to boost energy efficiency and increase low-cost power supply nationwide.
