Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he helped stop a war between India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed countries. This time, he also praised Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, for playing a big role in calming things down during the crisis.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said, “I stopped the war between Pakistan and India. Both are nuclear countries — they had to stop. Asim Munir was very important in stopping the war from Pakistan’s side. I love Pakistan. I think Modi is a great man. I spoke to him last night. Now we’ll have a trade deal with India.”
Trump made these comments after a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 summit in Canada. It was their first direct talk since the short conflict between India and Pakistan that took place from May 7 to May 10 along the Line of Control (LoC).

Trump said he was the one who stopped the conflict from turning into a war and seemed upset that the media hadn’t given him credit. “I stopped a war between two nuclear nations — India and Pakistan. Nobody wrote about it,” he said.
However, Indian officials denied Trump’s claims. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said there was no U.S. involvement in stopping the fighting. He said India and Pakistan used their own military channels to communicate, and India has never accepted any outside mediation.
Despite India’s denial, Trump’s comments suggest that Pakistan’s military may have played a behind-the-scenes role in easing tensions. So far, Field Marshal Asim Munir has not made any public statements about Trump’s remarks.
