The higher education department made a significant decision that will result in the four-year Bachelor of Studies (BS) program being offered by all of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s government colleges.
Speaking about this significant move, representatives from the education department informed a local newspaper that, up until now, only 123 out of 323 government colleges offered several BS programs. According to administrators, “all remaining colleges will now introduce BS programs in the larger interest of students.”
It is important to note that KPK public institutions have far greater tuition than government universities. Students in the area have applauded the decision, claiming that it will allow those from low-income families to continue their education.

The two-year Associate Degree program is no longer available due to the decision to expand BS programs to all colleges within the province. On the other hand, students who have already enrolled in two-year programs will keep going until they graduate with their degrees.
According to Arshad Khan, secretary of the department of higher education, the decision was made because people with associate’s degrees had less opportunities than those with bachelor’s degrees to pursue higher education.
He continued by saying that, in order to meet the demand for additional teachers following the introduction of BS programs in all universities, the higher education department is authorized to engage temporary instructors up until the Public Service Commission recruits permanent professors.
Furthermore, according to another department source, there are a number of problems with the associate degree program. “Its recognition equal to BA/BSc because no such rules or law is framed to bring at par with BA/BSc” is one of the primary concerns.
