Alvi Asks Napa to Set Up Similar Centers Across Country
Karachi: President Dr. Arif Alvi has emphasised the value of culture and the performing arts in developing a current national identity that reflects the rich heritage of Pakistan.
He was addressing at the conclusion of a presentation on the poetry of the great Urdu poet Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib at the National Academy of Performing Arts (Napa).
The president urged Napa to develop comparable centres of excellence around Pakistan so that the common public may easily access the tremendous treasures of Pakistan’s 5,000-year-old civilizational legacy.
The president praised Zia Mohyeddin’s faultless rendering of some of Ghalib’s most renowned poetry and writings, whose narrative brilliantly conjured glimpses of the great poet’s unique life and times.

A group of young men and women alumni of NAPA performed five ghazals by Ghalib, led by the head of the music faculty, Ustad Nafees Ahmed, on the sitar. The soundtrack was composed by Arshad Mahmud. The program was led by the dean of the theatre department Khalid Ahmed.
