A moderate earthquake jolted parts of Pakistan on Thursday, sparking panic in several cities and towns.
According to the seismological centre, the tremor measured 5.9 in magnitude at a depth of 111 kilometres, with its epicentre in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.
Strong shocks were reported in Islamabad, across Punjab, and in many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Charsadda, Chitral, Dir, Malakand, Swat, Abbottabad, Shangla, Nowshera, Bajaur and Khyber. People also felt the ground shake in Taxila, Wah Cantt, Chakwal, Hasan Abdal, Kalabagh, Talagang and Choa Saidan Shah.
The tremors forced residents to rush out of homes and workplaces in fear. However, no immediate reports of casualties or major damage have been confirmed so far.
