Maulana Khan Zaib, a major leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), was slain by unidentified gunmen in a targeted shooting near Shandai Mor, which is near the Khar Tehsil Headquarters in Bajaur.

His friend, Dr. Tariq, was also killed in the tragedy, and three other people were gravely injured.

Sources claim that at the time of the incident, Zaib was promoting the forthcoming Aman Pason demonstration in Bajaur on July 13.

The event is being investigated by police, and the injured were taken right away to a local hospital for treatment.

Three days of mourning have been declared by the ANP in remembrance of Maulana Khan Zaib’s martyrdom.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the provincial president, denounced the incident, stating that “it is not merely an assault on ANP but on Pashtun awareness, peace, and the politics of resistance.”

The attack, he claimed, shows that terrorists have once again been allowed to operate freely in the area.

He stressed that for the three days of mourning, all political activity will be suspended.
