Apple is preparing to release iOS 26.1 early this week, likely on Monday, after facing widespread criticism over the new Liquid Glass interface introduced in iOS 26. The update will include a new option that lets users reduce the transparency effect, improving screen readability and overall user comfort.
Many iPhone and iPad users had complained that the default Liquid Glass design was too transparent, making text harder to read and causing visual strain. In the fourth beta of iOS 26.1, Apple added a toggle that applies a more tinted and frosted look to the interface. This increases contrast and makes on-screen elements clearer.
The feature can be found in Settings > Display & Brightness on iOS devices, while macOS users will see it in System Settings > Appearance. Apple explains that the “Clear” setting shows more background content, while the new “Tinted” setting adds opacity for better readability.
Besides the visual adjustment, iOS 26.1 is expected to bring stability improvements and bug fixes. The update will reportedly include a refreshed Apple TV icon and other minor system refinements. Following the rollout of iOS 26.1, Apple is expected to release the first beta of iOS 26.2 to developers, along with updates for macOS 26.1 and watchOS 26.2.
This change is seen as a direct response to user feedback. Many testers had voiced concerns online that the previous design felt distracting and uncomfortable to use. By allowing customization of the Liquid Glass effect, Apple appears to be balancing its new visual style with user needs, offering more flexibility for those who prefer a cleaner and more readable interface.
