Apple is taking cybersecurity to a new level — offering a record-breaking $2 million reward to anyone who can successfully hack an iPhone under its expanded bug bounty program, marking the largest payout in the company’s history.
The move underscores Apple’s growing focus on combating advanced spyware attacks and strengthening user protection amid rising global cyber threats.
The world’s highest cybersecurity reward
The new $2 million top prize specifically targets “sophisticated mercenary spyware attacks,” Apple said in its announcement. These are highly advanced exploits capable of compromising devices without any user interaction, similar to the Pegasus spyware developed by Israel’s NSO Group.
In comparison, most leading tech firms — including Google and Microsoft — offer rewards that rarely exceed six figures, putting Apple’s program at the forefront of global cybersecurity incentives.
Evolution of Apple’s bug bounty program
Since launching its bug bounty initiative several years ago, Apple has paid out more than $35 million to ethical hackers and researchers worldwide.
