Apple to Invest Around $5 Billion to Develop ChatGPT Rival

According to reports from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is developing iOS 18, the company’s upcoming major update, which will include intelligent AI capabilities. When other businesses unveiled AI features in reaction to ChatGPT’s popularity, Apple was taken aback. Similar features have proven difficult for Apple to launch successfully. Apple is making significant investments in AI servers that use Nvidia HGX H100 GPUs to address this.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple intends to invest up to $4.75 billion next year, having already spent over $620 million on AI servers. They aim to outperform competitors like Google and Microsoft, who have also been developing intelligent AI.
Microsoft created Bing Chat, which is now widely used on iOS and Android, by investing $10 billion in ChatGPT. With Android 14, Google debuted Bard and creative AI features, which are now available on Pixel 8 phones.
According to Kuo, Apple may receive up to 20,000 AI servers the following year and between 2,000 and 3,000 this year. To minimize costs, they might also move from Nvidia’s H100 GPUs to B100 GPUs and even produce their own server chips.
