Apple to Manufacture iPhones at New Plant in India
In an effort to diversify away from China and increase production in India, Apple will make iPhones at a new plant there, executives announced on Friday.
The main hub of the flagship mobile’s worldwide supply chain is China, where production has been hampered by last year’s tough Covid-19 regulations and ongoing diplomatic difficulties with the United States.
“Apple phones to be built in the state soon,” Karnataka state chief minister Basavaraj S Bommai tweeted on Friday.

Together with around 100,000 new jobs, Karnataka will gain access to a wide range of opportunities, he continued.
The projected facility, according to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India’s state minister for information technology, will span 300 acres in the state that is home to Bengaluru, the country’s innovation powerhouse.
Following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu, according to local media, visited that city on Friday and made the news.
Modi tweeted on Wednesday, “Our conversations covered several themes aimed at boosting India’s tech and innovation eco-system.

Liu committed on Thursday to establishing 100 000 jobs worth of electronics manufacturing in the neighboring southern state of Telangana.
Requests for response from AFP went unanswered from Apple and Foxconn.
Since 2019, Foxconn, the leading iPhone manufacturer in the world, has produced Apple mobile devices in India at its facility in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
Wistron and Pegatron, two additional Taiwanese suppliers, also produce and assemble Apple products in India.

Apple announced in September of last year that it would produce the newest iPhone 14, just weeks after the flagship model was introduced, in India.
Yet according to Bloomberg, the nation only contributes 5% or less to Apple’s global output, trailing only the US, China, Japan, and five other nations.
Modi’s “Made in India” plan, under which he has invited international companies to manufacture items in the South Asian nation, is strengthened by Apple’s decision to increase manufacturing there.
