Major Arab nations, such as Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have fiercely denounced Iran’s missile attack on Qatar’s Al Udeid US Air Base, describing it as a grave threat to regional peace and a flagrant breach of international law.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the incident as a “blatant violation of international law and the principles of good neighborliness” in a statement released on Monday. In response to the growing tensions, the Kingdom vowed its full support for Qatar and deemed the attack “unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances.”
The statement read, “The aggression launched by Iran against the brotherly State of Qatar is strongly condemned and denounced by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.” “The kingdom affirms the brotherly State of Qatar’s support and stance.”
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) targeting of the US base was also strongly denounced by the United Arab Emirates, which called it a “flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace and a clear contravention of international law and the United Nations Charter”.
Any attack that “threatens the security and safety of the State of Qatar and undermines the security and stability of the region” has been emphatically opposed by the UAE.
The UAE Foreign Ministry warned that further military escalation could plunge the region into dangerous instability with serious consequences for global peace and security, while reaffirming its unwavering support for all actions taken by Qatar to ensure the safety and security of its citizens and residents. The ministry underlined the pressing necessity for commitment to good neighborliness values and diplomatic solutions.
It stated that the best way to resolve present issues and maintain regional security and stability, as well as the peace of its peoples, is via meaningful conversation.
The Gulf Cooperation Council, or GCC, expressed alarm over Iran’s increasing military provocations in the area and categorically denounced the missile strike.
Oman and Bahrain join the chorus of criticism
In addition to expressing strong support for the brotherly State of Qatar and calling the Iranian attack an act of “open aggression,” the Bahraini Foreign Ministry urged for an immediate de-escalation.
The Sultanate of Oman also strongly criticized the missile strikes, calling them “illegal” and against international standards. Oman called for moderation and urged all sides to resume talks while restating its support for Qatar’s security and stability.
“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard,” the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement after the incident. We believe that this is a blatant breach of the United Nations Charter, international law, the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, and its airspace.
In accordance with international law, we reaffirm Qatar’s right to a direct response commensurate with the scope and character of this egregious attack.”
“We are confident that the attack was successfully halted and the Iranian missiles were intercepted by Qatar’s air defenses. The Ministry of Defense will subsequently release a comprehensive explanation of the attack’s circumstances.
We also stress that the region’s security and stability will be threatened by the continuance of such escalating military operations, which could lead to severe consequences for global peace and security.”
