Pakistan booked their spot in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 after defeating the United Arab Emirates in the final Group ‘A’ match on Wednesday. Salman Ali Agha’s side bowled out the hosts for just 105, eventually posting a 41-run win with a total of 146, showing clinical performance against a weaker opposition.

The Super Four draw has set up a high-profile clash against archrivals India on Sunday. The match is expected to be intense, following the previous group-stage encounter where India won by seven wickets amid off-field controversies, including a handshake incident and post-match comments from Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav.

Despite the win against the UAE, Pakistan’s batting struggles remain a concern. Young opener Saim Ayub continued his poor run, scoring his third consecutive duck. His casual shot selection and failure to provide a strong start have left the top order under pressure. Partner Sahibzada Farhan also failed to make an impact, making it challenging for Pakistan to post a competitive total.

Fakhar Zaman provided some stability at number three, scoring a quick 50 off 36 balls. However, he was dismissed after attempting a risky shot, leaving questions over Pakistan’s reliance on him in the upcoming India clash. Captain Salman Ali Agha struggled against the UAE’s spinners, scoring just 20 off 27 balls, while Hasan Nawaz also failed to make a significant contribution in the lower middle order.

Shaheen Shah Afridi emerged as Pakistan’s standout performer, contributing both with bat and ball. The left-arm pacer scored an unbeaten 29 off 14 deliveries, including two sixes and three fours, and took 2-16 with the ball to earn the player of the match award. Shaheen’s all-round performance will be key if Pakistan hopes to challenge India in the Super Four opener.

Pakistan’s clinical bowling against weaker teams shows promise, but the upcoming match against India will be a true test of their batting depth and ability to perform under pressure. Fans will be watching closely to see if Fakhar, Salman, and Hasan can step up, while Shaheen continues to lead from the front.
