ISLAMABAD – Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) has closed its main crude oil processing unit because it doesn’t have enough crude oil to run it. The unit will stay closed until June 1, 2025, the company said in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The unit that was shut down can process 32,400 barrels of oil per day.
The shortage happened because gas pressure in the system has been too high due to imported LNG. This caused local gas fields to cut down production, which also reduced the amount of crude oil sent to ARL.
ARL is mainly involved in refining crude oil. It is owned by The Attock Oil Company Limited in the UK, and its parent company is Coral Holding Limited, based in Malta.
