Monsoon rains continue to pour across Pakistan and are expected to last for another two days, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. With more rainfall ahead, officials have issued warnings for possible flooding in both cities and river areas.
Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Irfan Virk, shared with Samaa TV that Pakistan received 25% more rainfall than usual in July. However, Sindh received less rain compared to other regions. Looking forward, he also warned that August is likely to bring even more rainfall than average, which could increase the chances of serious flooding.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued flood alerts for several rivers in Punjab, including the Chenab and Jhelum. A moderate flood is expected in these rivers between July 30 and 31. The Ravi and Sutlej rivers are also expected to see a rise in water levels, especially near Ganda Singh, in the next 24 hours.
Along with river flooding, urban areas are also at risk. The PDMA has warned that cities like Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Gujranwala may experience urban flooding due to heavy rains. Officials in several districts, including Sargodha, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Faisalabad, have been placed on high alert to respond to any emergencies.
The Punjab relief commissioner has ordered all departments to stay alert and be fully prepared. With rainfall expected to continue, residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
