Australia’s national cricket team ended their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a commanding nine-wicket win over Oman’s national cricket team in their final group-stage match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Australia’s victory was powered by a brilliant four-wicket spell from Adam Zampa and an unbeaten half-century from captain Mitchell Marsh.

Chasing a modest target of 105, Australia comfortably reached the total with the loss of just one wicket and 62 balls remaining. Marsh led from the front, scoring an unbeaten 64 off 33 balls, including seven fours and four sixes.

He was well supported by opener Travis Head, who made 32 from 19 deliveries. The pair added 93 runs in just eight overs before Head was caught and bowled by Shakeel Ahmed. Josh Inglis then finished the match in style with an unbeaten 12 off six balls.

Earlier, Marsh’s decision to bowl first proved effective as Australia dismissed Oman for 104 in 16.2 overs. Oman struggled early, losing three wickets inside the first five overs with only 39 runs on the board.

Middle-order batter Wasim Ali tried to steady the innings with a cautious 32 off 33 balls, hitting four boundaries before falling to Glenn Maxwell in the 16th over.

Only Jatinder Singh (17), Hammad Mirza (16), and Karan Sonavale (12) managed to reach double figures against a disciplined Australian bowling attack.

Zampa was the standout performer, taking 4 wickets for 21 runs in 3.2 overs and earning the Player of the Match award. Maxwell and Xavier Bartlett claimed two wickets each, while Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Ellis picked up one wicket apiece.

Despite the dominant win, both Australia and Oman were already eliminated from Super Eights contention. The 2021 champions finished fourth in Group B with two points from three matches, having suffered defeats againstthe  Zimbabwe national cricket team and the Sri Lanka national cricket team, while Oman ended at the bottom of the group after losing all their matches.
