Australia Women registered a dominant 107-run win over Pakistan Women in the ninth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday.
Batting first, Australia posted 221 for 9 in 50 overs after being reduced to 59 for 4 early on. Beth Mooney played a brilliant knock of 109 from 114 balls with 11 boundaries, earning her the Player of the Match award. She was well supported by Alana King, who stayed unbeaten on 51 off 49 balls with three fours and three sixes. The pair added a crucial 106-run stand for the ninth wicket to lift Australia to a competitive total.
Pakistan’s bowlers bowled with discipline, with Nashra Sandhu finishing with figures of 3 for 37. Rameen Shamim and Fatima Sana took two wickets each, while Sadia Iqbal and Diana Baig also contributed with one wicket each.
In reply, Pakistan struggled against Australia’s strong bowling attack and were bowled out for 114 in 36.3 overs. Sidra Amin top-scored with 35, while Rameen Shamim added 15 runs. The rest of the batting lineup failed to provide resistance.
Kim Garth was outstanding with the ball, taking 3 for 14 in six overs. Annabel Sutherland picked up 2 for 15, and Megan Schutt also claimed two wickets. Alana King, Ashleigh Gardner, and Georgia Wareham chipped in with a wicket each as Pakistan collapsed to 49 for 6 within 13 overs and never recovered.
The result boosts Australia’s standing in the tournament, while Pakistan now faces a tough battle to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
