Pakistan cricket team’s star batter, Babar Azam, has shared his excitement about leading his team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in Pakistan. As the defending champions, Pakistan will aim to keep their title, and Babar’s experience will connect their 2017 victory to this new campaign.

For the first time since 1996, Pakistan will host an ICC event, making their title defense even more meaningful. Only a few players from the 2017 winning squad remain, but Babar believes the team’s mindset and confidence are still strong.
“As a player, I’m very excited, and so are the fans,” Babar said. “A lot has changed since 2017. We have new players—only three or four from that winning team—but our belief, confidence, and execution are still the same.”
Pakistan enters the tournament after a challenging period with several coaching changes and early exits from the last two ICC events. Their most recent disappointment was in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where they suffered a shocking loss to the USA. However, Babar remains optimistic that past struggles won’t affect their Champions Trophy campaign.
“There is no pressure at all. The past is behind us. We have talked about our mistakes and worked on them,” he said.
As the top-ranked ODI batter in the world, Babar sees responsibility as motivation. “When you are a senior player and the team counts on you, I take it as a positive challenge,” he added.
He also believes playing at home will be an advantage. “When you play at home, you know the conditions well,” Babar explained. “You understand how the pitch will behave, but you still have to play good cricket because all the teams are strong.”
With the 2025 Champions Trophy approaching, Babar Azam’s performance could be key to Pakistan’s success. With high expectations from home fans, he has a golden opportunity to create a legacy that may never come again.
