The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Karachi is pursuing 14 separate inquiries against Bahria Town, centering on allegations of land fraud, money laundering, and misuse of government property.

Officials say the investigations involve thousands of acres of land allegedly obtained through fraudulent means. In Jamshoro, bogus entries and tampered records reportedly allowed Bahria Town to take control of government plots, while in Malir, more than 17,000 acres of state land were allegedly exchanged or adjusted illegally.

The probes also cover:

  • Property deals carried out without paying mandatory fees.
  • The purchase of 527 kanals in Murree using funds linked to Bahria Town Karachi.
  • Alleged laundering of money through property projects.
  • A 2015 land allotment worth Rs6 billion, allegedly sold for only Rs383 million.
  • Delays in handing over plots booked by the public.
  • Cases of public fraud, unpaid EOBI dues, and the misuse of land reserved for the K-IV water project.
  • Unauthorized construction in Bahria Town Karachi in violation of SBCA rules.

Those named in the cases include Malik Riaz, his son Ahmed Ali Riaz, Zain Malik, and other family members. Former Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, deputy commissioners, and Bahria Town officials are also under investigation.

NAB has further identified officials from the Board of Revenue, SBCA, EOBI, Water Board, and Land Utilisation Department, along with estate agents, builders, and officers from the Malir and Hyderabad Development Authorities, as being involved.

The sweeping inquiries highlight the scale of alleged irregularities linked to one of Pakistan’s biggest real estate developers.
