Balakot Project to Add 300MW to National Grid
In addition to adding 300 megawatts to the national grid, the Balakot hydropower project will generate approximately Rs1.3 billion in annual revenue and provide sufficient employment possibilities.

Malik Luqman, Senior Planning Officer of the KP Energy Department, told this news agency that the project will involve the construction of a 300 MW run-of-river hydro power plant in the Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Upon completion, the local population will have access to affordable and reliable electricity.
Two HPPs, 88MW Gabral Kalam and 157MW Madyn, are being constructed in Swat with the assistance of the World Bank at a cost of Rs 142 billion, he said, adding that the World Bank would provide $ 450 million, KP Govt would contribute $151 million, and World Bank would arrange $185 million in commercial financing.

In addition to conducting feasibility studies for 10 HPP locations, he estimated that these two mega-projects will yield Rs10 billion in revenue.
