Bangladesh completed a 2-0 series sweep over Ireland after beating them by 217 runs in the second Test in Dhaka on Sunday. Mushfiqur Rahim starred with a century and a fifty on his 100th Test, earning the player-of-the-match award, while spinner Taijul Islam claimed eight wickets in the match.
After winning the first Test in Sylhet by an innings and 47 runs, Bangladesh dominated the second from day one. Despite Andy McBrine’s six-wicket haul, Rahim (106) and Litton Das (128) helped Bangladesh post 476 in the first innings. Ireland replied with 265, with Lorcan Tucker unbeaten on 75, while Taijul Islam (4-76) tore through their middle order.
Bangladesh declared their second innings at 279-4, with contributions from Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, and Rahim, setting Ireland a massive target of 509. In reply, Islam (4-104) and Hasan Murad (4-44) dismantled Ireland’s batting, as Harry Tector scored 50 and Curtis Campher remained 71 not out. Ireland folded for 291 on the final day.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto praised the bowlers, saying, “The way Murad and Taijul bowled really impressed… we executed our plans perfectly and hope to continue like this.”
The two sides will now face off in a three-match Twenty20 series in Chattogram starting Thursday.
