A suicide blast struck near the Doh Ghoda Bridge in Bannu on Tuesday, close to the Basiya Khel police station, police officials confirmed. According to authorities, the attacker detonated himself before reaching his intended target. A body and a damaged motorcycle were found at the scene, suggesting the bomber was travelling on the bike at the time of the explosion.
Police teams quickly reached the site, sealed off the area, and launched an investigation. Officials are working to identify the target of the attack and determine whether the bomber had any support from accomplices.
The incident comes just days after a major operation in the region. On November 15, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police killed five militants during a joint action in the Takhtikhel border area of Bannu and Lakki Marwat. Authorities said the raid was carried out on the basis of credible intelligence about a militant group operating in the area. Security forces also recovered weapons during the encounter, preventing what they described as a potential threat.
Police officials said these operations are part of broader efforts to dismantle extremist networks in the border belt. The Bannu RPO praised the CTD and police personnel for their performance, adding that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remain fully prepared to maintain law and order across the province.
