Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that The Batman 2 will begin filming in spring 2026, ending months of speculation after multiple delays. CEO David Zaslav shared the update in a shareholder letter, also revealing plans for other upcoming DC projects under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 noir-style Batman film was originally set for release in October 2025, but production setbacks pushed it to 2026 and later to 2027. With filming now planned between March and May 2026, the movie remains on track for its 2027 release window.

Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne, alongside Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Matt Reeves will once again direct, continuing his darker and more grounded vision of Gotham.

The Batman 2 is part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s larger DC roadmap, which also includes Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Clayface, and a new Wonder Woman film. Zaslav described DC as one of the company’s most valuable entertainment assets, with plans to expand across films, TV, games, and live events.

While fans wait for the sequel, The Penguin spinoff series starring Colin Farrell is moving forward on Max, connecting directly to events in the upcoming movie. Reeves has also hinted at a growing “Batverse” that will tell standalone stories separate from the main DC Universe.

Casting announcements and plot details for The Batman 2 are expected by late 2025, giving fans plenty to look forward to before production begins. For now, Gotham’s next chapter is officially in motion.
