The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to raise the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The matter will be formally discussed during the ICC meeting in Dubai in early November.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board will protest against the way Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi handled the trophy presentation. The Indian team had refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy directly from Naqvi, who also serves as a senior leader in the Pakistan government.

Saikia explained that India’s stance was guided by government policy. “This is a multinational tournament. We don’t play bilateral series with Pakistan. The team is proud of winning, but we had informed the ACC beforehand that our players would not take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi,” he said.

After the refusal, the presentation ceremony ended abruptly. Naqvi awarded medals to the runners-up but left the stage with the trophy, leaving the Indian players without a formal handover. Saikia called this act “shocking” and demanded that both the trophy and medals be returned.

Despite the incomplete ceremony, the Indian team celebrated its victory. The BCCI announced a cash reward of ₹21 crore for the players, acknowledging their performance against Pakistan.

The standoff has now escalated into an international issue, with the BCCI preparing to bring it before the ICC. The controversy adds further tension to cricketing relations between India and Pakistan, already strained by political differences.
