Former U.S. President Joe Biden, 81, has announced he is battling advanced prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. The news, confirmed Friday, sparked an outpouring of global support—from political allies, world leaders, and citizens alike.

“Cancer touches us all,” Biden shared in a heartfelt social media post. “Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

The diagnosis comes months after Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race, citing health concerns. According to his medical team, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which allows for more effective treatment, despite being an aggressive form. His Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) indicates a fast-growing, high-risk prostate cancer.

King Charles III, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, reportedly sent a personal letter of support to Biden. Former President Barack Obama and Vice-President Kamala Harris also extended their warm wishes, calling Biden’s resilience “inspiring.”

Criticism Mounts Over Timing of Announcement

However, Biden’s diagnosis has reignited debate about the transparency of his health during his presidency. Critics, including Donald Trump, questioned whether signs of illness were hidden from the public.

“I’m surprised this wasn’t announced earlier,” Trump said, suggesting—without evidence—that the illness may have been long known.

Vice-President JD Vance echoed concerns, stating, “If you’re not healthy enough to govern, you shouldn’t be governing.”

Explosive New Book Adds Fuel

Coinciding with the announcement is the release of a controversial book, “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” which claims aides once considered placing Biden in a wheelchair for public events, and alleges he failed to recognize George Clooney at a 2023 fundraiser.

Set to be released Tuesday, the book is expected to intensify scrutiny around Biden’s health and decision-making during his final months in office.

Prostate Cancer in the Spotlight

Biden’s case has put prostate cancer awareness back in focus. A 2014 UK study found that 46% of cancers were diagnosed at advanced stages, underlining how quickly aggressive forms like Biden’s can spread undetected.

Biden, who lost his wife and daughter in a 1972 car crash and his son Beau to brain cancer in 2015, has often spoken about personal loss. In his message Monday, he offered words of strength:

“We are strongest in the broken places.”
