The Bank of Punjab has clarified reports regarding irregular credit card transactions, stating that the issue was caused by a temporary technical glitch and not a cyberattack.
According to the bank, routine system monitoring identified certain unusual credit card transactions, after which an immediate internal review was carried out. The review confirmed that a short-term technical issue in the credit card system allowed a limited number of existing customers to make unauthorized over-limit transactions.
The bank emphasized that the affected customers were not linked to any government initiative or scheme, including the Asaan Karobar Card. Instead, the issue involved a specific group of credit card holders in general.
BOP further clarified that the problem was purely technical and not the result of hacking or any cyber intrusion. The system gap has now been fully fixed, and the system update carried out on January 2, 2026, is unrelated to this credit card issue.

Recovery actions have already been initiated in line with the bank’s standard procedures. The bank said that most affected customers have cooperated and started repaying the over-limit amounts. All required corrective measures are currently in place, and the situation remains under control.
The bank also rejected claims circulating in some sections of the media regarding the scale of financial impact, calling them exaggerated, speculative, and incorrect.
BOP confirmed that all impacted credit card holders have been contacted directly. Customers who have not been approached by the bank are not affected and do not need to worry.
The bank advised customers to stay alert and avoid engaging with any unauthorized individuals offering financial advances. Customers were urged to deal only with verified bank officials and report any suspicious activity.
