CAA Negligence Costs PIA Over Rs 19 Billion
Islamabad: In the last nine months, the national airline, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), has lost more than Rs 19 billion because the European Union (EU) banned its flights. This was mostly because the Civil Aviation Authority didn’t do its job well (CAA).

Sources at PIA said that the airline has been losing Rs 2.2 billion every month since July 2020, when the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (Easa) put a six-month ban on PIA flights because of the PIA plane crash and the scandal that followed about commercial pilots getting fake flying licenses.
A PIA employee said that there used to be 58 flights a week to EU countries, of which 46 went to the UK and 12 went to other European states.
The source said that stopping flights was “costing the national flag carrier Rs 2.20 billion every month.” Because of the ban, Rs 19 billion have been lost over the past nine months.

When they looked into what happened, they opened a Pandora’s Box. The pilots’ licenses were questioned, and the aviation minister, Ghulam Sarwar, took action against those who had fake certificates.
