A warning about hackers impersonating government officials in order to target them has been released by the cabinet division.
The advice claims that the hackers have intensified their attacks on government officials by taking advantage of people’s natural inclination to click on fraudulent links supplied via emails, social media platforms, and other channels.
When the malicious links are clicked, the targeted computers and mobile devices are infected by these threat actors, who are posing as high-ranking officials. The infected systems can then facilitate complex assaults, such as the theft of private data and the illegal use of the target device to transmit data, including microphone access.

According to the warning, hackers exploit high-level officials’ mobile numbers and other information that has been gained from previous hacks. Hackers use it to send targeted recipients phishing emails, spoof SMS, or WhatsApp messages. To deceive the victims into exposing their sensitive information or clicking on dubious links or attachments, a carefully designed message is developed.
The warning implores individuals and public servants to always double-check a link they receive in an email or message, regardless of who sent it. Before downloading any attachments, including trustworthy attachments, it has additionally requested that they be scanned with an antivirus program.
Government employees were advised to update their operating systems and software on all computing devices, including PCs, laptops, mobile phones, and wearables. They were also advised to use reputable antivirus software or antimalware on all of their devices, and never to use personal accounts on company-issued hardware.
Government employees must always utilize MFA and avoid sharing personal information and login credentials with unknown or dubious users, websites, programs, etc.
Additionally, it has been advised to avoid browsing HTTP websites and to always open HTTPS websites instead of clicking on links.
