The federal cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, held a special meeting at Parliament House on Thursday to reconfirm and approve key changes linked to the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The session also cleared major legal reforms and moved forward with new legislation for the upcoming Federal Constitutional Court.
At the start of the meeting, the prime minister met cabinet members individually and thanked them for supporting the 27th Amendment. Ministers congratulated him on the successful passage of the bill, which introduced important changes to Pakistan’s constitutional structure.
One of the main agenda items was the re-approval of legal adjustments tied directly to the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Sources said the cabinet approved amendments to six different laws to bring them in full alignment with the new constitutional framework.
The cabinet also approved significant changes to the Pakistan Army Act, Pakistan Air Force Act, and Pakistan Navy Act. These updates are meant to harmonize military laws with the revised Article 243 of the Constitution. Under the new framework, the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be abolished after the current chairman retires. Additionally, the ranks of Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, and Admiral of the Fleet have now been added to the law.
Officials said these reforms are designed to meet modern defence needs and reflect changes in contemporary warfare and defence management.
The cabinet further approved the draft of the Federal Constitutional Court (Procedure and Practice) Act, 2025, paving the way for the operational structure of the new Constitutional Court created under the 27th Amendment. Once cleared by the National Assembly, the bills will be sent to the Senate for final approval.
The cabinet also ratified all decisions taken during the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting held on November 7.
