RAWALPINDI: To evaluate the progress of work on the historic project of the garrison city, the interim chief minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, visited the site of the Ring Road Project in Rawalpindi on Friday for the third time in 25 days.
The chief minister visited the Khasala Khurd Adiala Interchange site, evaluated the state of the earthwork, and took an aerial view of the 38-kilometer route.
The chief minister received a thorough briefing from Colonel Ayaz, a senior Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) officer, who highlighted the arrival of heavy machinery for the ring road construction and the project’s quick progress.
The chief minister was notified that the contractor had received the assigned land and that work on roads, drainage channels, and subways had started. He was informed that Nespak had also provided the project’s required drawings. Mr. Naqvi gave the FWO officials and Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Chatha the necessary directives, stressing the urgency of the project’s completion. He emphasized that the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad would greatly benefit from the ring road’s prompt completion.

According to information provided during the briefing, the ring road will have six lanes and extend 38.3 kilometers. The road’s interchanges at Banth and Chak Baily are currently under construction. There will be five interchanges throughout the 38.3 km long loop of the ring road: Baanth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, and Thalian. Around the road, an industrial zone will also be created. The project will cost Rs 31.7 billion in total, of which Rs 6.7 billion will go towards purchasing land.
Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman chaired a meeting earlier in the day at the Commissioner’s Office to assess the status of the ongoing development schemes in the city. He instructed the relevant departments and officials that further delays in the completion of the projects, such as the Daducha Dam and the Rawalpindi Ring Road, should not occur.
The second massive project in the garrison city, the Daducha Dam, was scheduled to start construction in a few days, the chief secretary was informed.
The commissioner updated the attendees at the conference that the whole region from GT Road to the Motorway was now clean, including the Rawalpindi Ring Road right of way. Similarly, he claimed that the Daducha Dam Project’s right of way and all other obstacles had almost been removed. Declaring that “our future survival depends on the supply of the required quantity of water,” he added that building dams was imperative.
Daducha Dam would be situated 25 kilometers away from Rawalpindi. In Rawalpindi and Kallar Syedan, a total of 16,194 kanals and 14 marlas were bought for the construction of this dam. The dam’s catchment area would be 129 square miles, and its dimensions would be 123 feet high by 737 feet long. Following construction, the dam will supply the garrison city’s inhabitants with 35 million gallons of water daily (MGD).
According to the chief secretary, the Daducha Dam and the Rawalpindi Ring Road projects are crucial to the community’s well-being. He declared that more delays would not be allowed because these projects had already experienced needless delays.
“Quality of work should not be compromised; however, efforts should be made to finish these projects ahead of schedule,” he stated. To guarantee quality, openness, and work efficiency, he instructed the commissioner to oversee these two public welfare initiatives directly and to spend as much time in the field as possible.
