CDA Announces Construction of New Parking Plazas in Islamabad
Islamabad: In response to the escalating parking challenges in the city, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has unveiled plans for the construction of two new parking plazas in Islamabad.
This decision comes as construction is already underway for the Blue Area parking plaza, a project estimated at Rs1.3 billion with a targeted completion date of September 30th, 2023.
Tahir Mahmood, the Director of Works, disclosed that contracts for the construction of two additional plazas, one in I-8 Markaz and another in F-8, would be awarded within the next three days through a tender process.

Furthermore, four more plazas have already been designed, and the CDA will soon determine when to initiate their development. It is noteworthy that the city has been grappling with parking issues due to a decline in available parking spaces.
CDA officials emphasized that the surge in vehicles, coupled with inadequate implementation of bylaws and planning, has significantly contributed to the parking problem.

The number of parking slots in markets and plazas was originally planned based on the number of stores. However, over time, store owners modified the layouts, resulting in an increase in the number of shops and a subsequent shortage of parking spots.
The shortage of parking spaces in Blue Area and other commercial centers like F-8 Markaz was brought to the attention of the CDA in a letter from the Islamabad Traffic Police back in 2016.
