The Capital Development Authority (CDA) intends to switch from conventional electricity to solar power to minimize costs. This is part of its cost-cutting and environmentally friendly agenda. CDA Initiates Solar Energy Project to Reduce Monthly Power Bills. They believe that by introducing solar panels all over Pakistan, they can make monthly savings of almost Rs. 250 million.
The proposal has three phases. First, solar power will be used for water pumps and tube wells. Then, solar energy will power street lighting. Finally, solar energy will power CDA buildings.

Solar panels are intended to be installed on city waterworks and tube wells. These panels will produce about 4.5 megawatts of electricity, which can power the tube wells and waterworks for 25 years. They estimate that they will save 80 million in electricity costs in four years.

A CDA member, Khalid Hafeez, presented the plan to the CDA Board. Following discussion, the board determined that further research is necessary. They want to know the cost and whether it is feasible. They also want to confirm that it complies with all regulations.
To determine this, the CDA will adhere to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) regulations as of 2004. They will ensure that everything is completed in the right way before they begin using solar power.
