The Capital Development Authority (CDA) was mandated by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday to resolve the long-standing parking issue, particularly around showrooms.
117 vehicle stores in G9 and G8 had been blocked off by CDA a few weeks before due to illegal parking. IHC Justice Babar Sattar instructed the CDA to de-seal the showroom owners’ outlets during a previous hearing of a case brought by dealership owners in G-8 and G-9.

Attorney for the CDA Hafiz Arafat stated in court that it was difficult for the general public to park their cars since dealers had virtually taken over all parking spaces close to showrooms.
Following the hearing, Justice Sattar said that it appeared that the parking requirements of both companies and people were not adequately met. Added him:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) appears to take an erroneous approach to sealing companies that use public parking lots, which at first glance does not appear to be a basis for declaring that the properties that these companies are occupying are not being used in compliance with the regulatory framework established by the Capital Development Authority Ordinance 1960.
In order to ensure that vehicles were parked legally, Justice Sattar instructed the Inspector General of the ICTP and the senior superintendent of traffic police to report on the legal framework in which they implement regulatory and punitive action.

A report on citizen and business demands as well as the steps taken to offer adequate parking was also mandated for the CDA chairman and member (planning).
