CDA Told to Stop Road Construction Through Margalla Hills
The construction of a road from Shah Allah Ditta that connects the capital to Haripur and through the Margalla Hills National Park was ordered to stop by a senate committee on Wednesday. This directive was given at a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change.
Rina Saeed Khan, the chairwoman of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB), informed the committee that the project had been started by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) without an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

Later, the chairperson cited decisions made by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that forbade development in protected areas. She claimed that CDA is constructing the road for real estate, not for local residents or tourists.
Concerns over the development of a golf course on the property were also expressed by the committee. Members were informed about the National Park Boundary demarcation by the chairwoman. She said that CDA had taken 138 acres from Margalla Hills National Park to build the golf course.
Sherry Rehman, the minister of climate change, emphasised the need for a distinct boundary to prevent encroachments. She also talked about her contacts with the appropriate parties in an effort to halt the building of a road through the national park.
IWMB representatives stated that CDA is moving on with the road development despite their reservations. The committee suggested promptly halting illegal development.

Work has reportedly started on an existing route in the national park, according to CDA authorities. Authorities from the CDA asserted that the 138-acre property was a part of the Chauntra community and not the national park in response to complaints about the golf course.
IWMB representatives disputed that assertion. The committee was given a thorough explanation of the construction of the Sinyari Golf Course in the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP).
