CDA Uses Geo-Tagging to Find Illegal Structures in Islamabad
In accordance with a report released on April 16, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Building Control Wing (South Division) has used cutting-edge geo-tagging technology to identify 597 unauthorized structures throughout Islamabad.
Prior to three months ago, the Building Control Wing’s (South Division) jurisdiction covered both legal and illegal commercial structures as part of the initial phase of geotagging properties. It was mentioned that CDA’s initial focus would be on leveraging the data obtained by this technology to enhance internal operations, with plans to eventually make this information accessible to the public (via its official website).

Reliable sources state that the Directorate of Enforcement has received the list of unauthorised properties along with their exact coordinates in order to design a correction plan.
The CDA Information Technology Directorate is working to make the data accessible on the company’s website in the interim. The authority’s officials praised this digital outreach as a crucial step in enlightening the public and raising awareness in order to reduce potential liabilities in the future. Due to the lack of a comprehensive automated system for centralised data collecting, information has historically been limited to physical archives.
However, a recent thorough field study successfully combined important information with specific building locations by using geo-tagging with Google Maps.
A comprehensive database that includes both commercial and residential structures will make future decision-making easier once it is available online.
