CDA Will Use Drones for Firefighting
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) of Islamabad is intending to implement cutting-edge drone technology to cope with fire emergencies in the city’s tall structures. This will also provide the means to quickly put out flames in places like the Margalla Hills that are otherwise difficult to reach. The drones will have high-definition video recorders and infrared imaging capabilities to provide live updates on situations. When responding to a fire, every second counts, and this technology will allow officials to react quickly and effectively, saving lives. Currently, CDA has roughly 25 fire tenders and 4 snorkels, but in the event of an emergency, the Snorkels cannot reach areas of very tall buildings.
Firefighting regulations were reportedly notified by the Ministry of Science and Technology in October 2022, with the Federal and Provincial authorities required to apply the Fire Safety Provisions 2016 by that time. CDA has already been utilizing drone technology to keep an eye on popular hiking routes and other vulnerable sites. Drone technology is a promising and inexpensive option thus far, but it has enormous potential if used correctly.
