In response to the incident, Mayo Hospital has halted the use of the injection, pending further investigation.
Hospital authorities have launched an internal investigation, with a committee led by Professor Dr. Asrarul Haq Tur to determine the cause of the reaction.
Mayo Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Professor Muhammad Haroon Hamedd, has assured that legal action will be taken against those responsible for any negligence.
Reports suggest that recently purchased medications at Mayo Hospital lacked proper laboratory testing before being administered to patients. It has been alleged that the affected patients were not screened for potential allergic reactions before receiving the injection, raising concerns about the hospital’s medical safety practices.
This unfortunate incident occurred just days after Punjab Chief Minister’s surprise visit to Mayo Hospital, during which he received multiple complaints from patients regarding mismanagement. Following his visit, the Medical Superintendent (MS) was removed from his position.
As the investigation continues, the Punjab Health Department faces mounting pressure to improve hospital safety measures and ensure that all medications undergo proper testing before use.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for stringent regulations in public hospitals to prevent such tragedies in the future.
