CES 2026 delivered an unexpected moment as Hyundai shifted attention away from cars and toward robotics, presenting Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot Atlas on a public stage for the first time.
Visitors expecting vehicle launches at CES were instead introduced to robots. Hyundai’s press conference focused almost entirely on robotics and its partnership with Boston Dynamics, signaling a broader vision that extends beyond automobiles.
The event began with a choreographed performance by several Boston Dynamics Spot robots, which immediately set the tone for a technology-driven presentation centered on automation and artificial intelligence.

A major highlight came when Atlas appeared live on stage. Although videos of Atlas have circulated online for years, they were always recorded inside Boston Dynamics’ research labs. CES 2026 marked the first time the humanoid robot was demonstrated publicly, allowing audiences to see it operate outside a controlled laboratory setting.
During the demonstration, Atlas stood up from the floor using movements that appeared awkward by human standards. Engineers explained that this motion is intentional, as Atlas is not designed to copy human movement. Instead, it is built to move in ways that are more efficient and stable for a robot, without following human conventions.
Hyundai’s involvement in Atlas goes beyond showcasing the robot. The company is working closely with Boston Dynamics to manufacture Atlas units, supply key actuators, and help develop the overall supply chain. All Atlas robots produced this year are expected to be delivered to Hyundai’s Robotics Metaplant Application Center, where they will be used in real operational settings.
Another key partner in the project is Google DeepMind, which is collaborating with Boston Dynamics and Hyundai to improve Atlas’ intelligence. The goal is to integrate advanced AI models that help the robot better understand tasks, environments, and decision-making as it moves closer to practical use.
For now, the focus remains on industrial applications. Hyundai and Boston Dynamics say Atlas will first be tested and deployed in factory environments to prove reliability and usefulness. If successful, the companies believe the robot could eventually take on roles in everyday settings, including homes.
Hyundai’s CES 2026 presentation made it clear that the company sees robotics as a key part of its future, positioning Atlas as a symbol of how manufacturing, AI, and automation may soon reshape both industries and daily life.
