Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 (C-1) has set a new benchmark in Pakistan’s energy sector by achieving 400 days of uninterrupted operation, marking a historic first for the nation’s nuclear power generation. This milestone surpasses previous records set by Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Units 2 (C-2) and 4 (C-4), which had each achieved continuous operation for 365 days.

This landmark achievement highlights the dedication and expertise of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) teams, including scientists, engineers, and technicians, whose commitment to operational excellence has been central to C-1’s sustained performance. The Chashma Nuclear Power Plants, comprising Units C-1 through C-4, are currently operating with exceptional capacity and availability factors, underscoring their reliability in supplying consistent energy to the national grid.

The successful continuous operation of C-1 has been supported by the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), whose effective grid management has ensured stability and enabled long-term operation without interruption. The collaboration between PAEC and NTDC exemplifies effective coordination in Pakistan’s energy infrastructure.

Currently, Pakistan operates six nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 3530 megawatts. Four of these are located at Chashma, near Mianwali, while the remaining two, K-2 and K-3, are situated near Karachi. These plants contribute significantly to the national power supply and are a key component of the country’s strategy to meet growing energy demands sustainably.

PAEC remains committed to aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. With a legacy that dates back to 1972, when the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) was first connected to the national grid, Pakistan continues to strengthen its nuclear energy program to support long-term energy security and environmental sustainability.

The 400-day continuous run of C-1 not only reflects operational excellence but also sets a new standard for nuclear energy performance in Pakistan, paving the way for future achievements in the sector.
