Chat Lock: Mark Zuckerberg Announces A New Feature On WhatsApp
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, has introduced a new feature called “Lock Specific Chats” on WhatsApp, aiming to enhance privacy and security for users. This feature allows users to lock their chats with a password, ensuring that their conversations remain private and accessible only to authorized individuals.
The “Lock Specific Chats” feature on WhatsApp is designed to offer users an additional layer of privacy for their most sensitive data within individual or group chats. Users can secure their conversations within a password-protected folder, enabling them to have secure and confidential communication with family, friends, or colleagues.
This advanced option provides peace of mind by shielding locked chats from prying eyes, adding an extra level of protection to private messages. Users can lock specific chats using either a password or biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition.
When a chat is locked, WhatsApp notifications won’t display the sender’s name or the actual message unless the user authenticates themselves. This feature proves useful for individuals who occasionally share their phones or find themselves in situations where someone else is temporarily holding their device.
WhatsApp has also announced that it will be adding additional customizations to the chat lock feature in the coming months. Users can expect features like locking for companion devices and creating unique passwords for chats separate from their phone’s password.
To set a password for a specific chat, users need to select the desired conversation, choose the “Lock chat” option, and set a unique password. Once a chat is added to the list of locked conversations, it can only be accessed by authorized individuals using the user’s fingerprint or password. Unauthorized access attempts will prompt the person to clear the chat to gain access.
WhatsApp already offers various security options such as encrypted chat backup, disappearing messages, and end-to-end encryption. The ability to lock specific chats is currently under development and will be available to users in the near future, empowering them with more control over their messaging experience and ensuring the privacy of their sensitive data.
