Professional golfer and Masters winner Jon Rahm has chosen to compete in the LIV Golf competition, which is sponsored by Saudi Arabia. He will be moving to the (relatively) new competition and leaving the traditional PGA Tour.
After signing a contract with LIV Golf that is estimated to be worth up to £450 million, Rahm will become the most paid athlete in the world. The Spanish player Rahm is expected to make £192 million more than both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo put together.
Ronaldo has been playing football since the beginning of 2023 on contract with Al-Nassr, another team sponsored by Saudi Arabia.

“I play golf for the love of the game and for the love of golf,” declared Jon Rahm following his signing with LIV Golf. Although I have ambition, I don’t have greed. However, I owe it to them as their spouse, father, and family man to provide them with as many opportunities and resources as I can. Rahm has made the choice to use Saudi methods to raise his financial standing.
Rahm has spent the last eighteen months being associated with a move to LIV Golf. He allegedly declined a £320 million offer to join them in the past in 2022.
