A new study has revealed that children who eat too many fatty foods face a significantly higher risk of asthma.

Researchers found that heavy consumption of saturated and trans fats weakens the immune system, triggers inflammation, and worsens breathing issues in young patients.

Study details
The research, conducted in India, examined the diets of more than 2,400 children aged 6 to 16. It showed that children with asthma were more likely to consume high-fat foods compared to those without the condition.

“Diets rich in unhealthy fats cause inflammation in the body, which directly affects the lungs and airways,” the study explained.

Western diet adds to risk
Experts also highlighted the influence of Western-style eating, which is high in processed and fried foods. This diet not only raises the chances of asthma but also contributes to obesity — another condition that can make respiratory problems worse.

The study further pointed to an unhealthy imbalance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids as a possible factor behind asthma in children.

What parents can do
Health specialists recommend giving children a balanced diet filled with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, nuts, and seeds. These foods help lower inflammation and support stronger immunity.

With childhood asthma on the rise, researchers say improving diet could be a simple but powerful step in prevention and management.
