China is preparing to open the world’s highest bridge, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, to traffic on September 28. Located in Guizhou Province, the bridge rises to an incredible 625 meters above the canyon floor, making it taller than the iconic World Trade Center in the United States.

The project sets two world records: it will become the highest bridge in the world and the largest span bridge ever built in a mountainous region. Stretching over 2,890 meters with a main span of 1,420 meters, the bridge was completed in just three years at a cost of about $283 million.

Engineers have praised the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge as a modern masterpiece. Built with advanced technology, it is designed to withstand earthquakes and extreme weather conditions, ensuring safety and durability. Beyond being an engineering marvel, the bridge is set to transform transportation in Guizhou by drastically reducing travel times across rugged terrain.

The project is also part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to improve connectivity, boost trade, attract investment, and support tourism in remote regions. Standing taller than many of the world’s famous skyscrapers, the bridge itself is expected to become a tourist attraction, drawing visitors eager to experience its breathtaking views and record-breaking height.

With its opening, China further strengthens its position as a global leader in infrastructure and large-scale engineering projects. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is not just a link across the canyon, it is a symbol of progress, innovation, and new opportunities for local communities.
