China has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s recent military strikes against Iran, labeling them as a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a significant threat to regional stability. The remarks were made during an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council on Saturday, where Chinese Ambassador Fu Cong expressed “deep concern” over the escalating conflict between the two nations.
“China condemns Israel’s violations of Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity,” said Fu. He called on Israel to “immediately cease all dangerous military actions” and warned that continued hostilities could have dire consequences for the broader Middle East.
According to a Reuters report, the Chinese envoy emphasized that Beijing firmly opposes any actions that incite conflict or escalate regional tensions. He also voiced concern over the potential impact of the military confrontation on ongoing diplomatic efforts related to Iran’s nuclear program, which have been stalled for months.
The condemnation follows Israel’s announcement of a “long operation” aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities. The offensive was met with swift retaliation from Tehran, which launched airstrikes on Israeli cities including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
In response to the deteriorating security environment, China has issued advisories for its citizens residing in both Israel and Iran. Chinese nationals have been urged to remain vigilant and prepare for potential missile or drone attacks amid what Beijing has described as a “complex and serious” situation.
China has positioned itself as a diplomatic stabilizer in the region in recent years. Notably, it played a key role in brokering a rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia in 2023. As the Israel-Iran conflict intensifies, Beijing is urging all parties to return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace.
