Chunian Industrial Estate Transformed into Aqua Business Park
Lahore: According to sources, the Punjab government has approved the proposal of the Punjab Industrial Park Development Management Company (PIEDMC) to convert the Chunian Industrial Estate (Kasur) project into aqua business park.

The industrial park is located near Bhai Pheru, 40 km from Lahore.
The Chunian Industrial Park (Kasur) project will be converted into Pakistan’s first aquaculture park, “Chunian Aqua Business Park”.

The aforementioned development emerged after it was discovered that the land acquired for the industrial park was not suitable for industrial use due to the increasing groundwater level.
According to sources, the company conducted a soil test on the land purchased for PKR 350 million, which revealed that the groundwater level was only 10 feet or more high – making it unsuitable for industrial development. However, a number of subsequent studies have shown that the area is suitable for “raising, growing and exporting seafood species, especially crabs, shrimps and prawns”.

In addition, the land seemed viable for fish farming, so the project decided to add fishing activities for local consumption. Products from the park will be marketed at a proposed large fish market project nearby on Multan Road – after the existing Lahore Lohari Gate fish market is relocated.
